About Skate Alchemy
Our Mission
Skate Alchemy’s mission is to create inclusive environments where individuals can experience the transformative power of rhythm skating. We celebrate the artistry and legacy of roller skating through inclusive classes, workshops, performances, and community events. Centering Black and queer communities, Skate Alchemy honors the deep cultural roots of rhythm skating, embracing joy as an act of resistance and a path to healing. With a focus on movement, spirituality, and mental well-being, we create space for connection, empowerment, and liberation on wheels.
About the Founder
Dalila Gittens, MD, MPH
Dalila (they/them) aka Spinderella is a professional rhythm skater, certified skate instructor, and public health advocate. They began rhythm skating during the pandemic as a way to heal from the trauma and stress of medical residency training. What began as a form of release soon became a powerful practice of self-expression, grounding, and active meditation. Rhythm skating saved their life, offering a way to reconnect with their body and find balance amid the chaos.
Dalila’s passion for skating has led them to become a growing influencer in the skating community, using their platform to inspire and uplift others through dance, tutorials, and creative expression.
Dalila's journey with skating started at Judkins Park in Seattle, where they discovered both community and a sense of belonging. Now, through Skate Alchemy, they aim to create a space where others can feel the same sense of belonging, healing, and empowerment—through movement that nurtures both body and mind.
Dalila has taught at spaces like the Beacon Dance Studio, Southgate Roller Rink, and Lynwood Bowl and Skate and performed at events including Bumbershoot and the Critical Medicine Riding Exhibition.
