Master Hurricane Kicks
Ready to add flair to your skating? Follow along to perfect your hurricane kicks, focusing on power, precision, and style. Follow these steps:
Start Position and Extension:
Face right.
Straighten your swinging leg (right leg) and bend your pivoting leg (left leg), keeping your arms perpendicular to your body for balance.
Extend your right hip back to build momentum.
Torso & Flexion:
Turn your torso to the left, then flex your right hip (raise your leg so your toes point toward the ceiling).
Abduction & Pivot:
Swing your right leg out to the side (abduct your hip) so your toes point toward the camera. At the same time, pivot 180° on the inner front edge or big toe of your left foot-forming a U-shaped motion as you turn.
Adduction:
Bring your right leg back in (adduct your hip)
Repeat & Refine:
Repeat steps 2-4-by first flexing your right hip across your midline to face left.
Remember, only extend your hip at the start (step 1) for controlled power.
Over time, aim to do more kicks in a row, and don't forget to practice with your left leg swinging, too!
Pro Tips:
Momentum Matters: Extend your hip only at the start.
Core & Arms: Tightening your core and using your arms (expanding during the swing and contracting when bringing the leg back) help maintain and build momentum.
Timing is Everything: Pivot and abduct your hip at the peak height for a smooth flow.
